Voluntary Disclosure Program (VDP)

The Voluntary Disclosure Program (VDP) is a program created and administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), which allows taxpayers to amend or correct their previous tax filing or reveal information to the CRA not previously provided in their tax returns.

The purpose of the program is to promote compliance with Canada’s tax laws by encouraging taxpayers to voluntarily come forward and correct previous omissions in their dealings with the CRA.

Under the voluntary disclosure program, taxpayers can come forward out of their own accord to amend their tax return without fear of criminal prosecution and reduce the likelihood of additional penalty charges being applied to the taxes owed to the government of Canada.
